Dear Colleagues,

It was a great privilege for us to organize the 3rd International Congress on Gastrointestinal Oncology. This congress was organized by the Hellenic Society of Gastrointestinal Oncology.

In this meeting, which was exclusively devoted to gastrointestinal malignancies, opinion leaders along with colleagues from many European countries got together to exchange experiences and ideas about the progress and prospects of these very important tumors.

The meeting took place in the beautiful island of Crete, cradle of the famous ancient Minoan civilization, famous for its wild and original beauty, its history but also for its Mediterranean diet. On the other hand, the luxury Creta Maris Hotel and Convention Center a great resort which offers excellent facilities surpassing the needs of the most demanding conference organizers and congress delegates made your stay almost unforgettable. Accompanying persons also had the opportunity to visit nearby places very well known all over the world for their history and beauty.

The hosting scientific Society, the Hellenic Society of Gastrointestinal Oncology (HSGO), is a dynamic society founded on 1998, devoted to the study of malignant and benign gastrointestinal tumors and the promotion of knowledge by organizing national and international congresses and by doing clinical and basic research in the field of gastrointestinal oncology. So far, HSGO has organized 3 international congresses (including the present one) and 5 national GI Oncology congresses as well as many other educational activities. The official publication of HSGO ("DIGESTIVE ONCOLOGY") is a quarterly publication hosting editorials, reviews, original articles and special articles related to epidemiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment of GI malignancies including liver cancer.

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the HSGO we welcome you all in this exciting meeting being sure that after the closing remarks we will be all wiser and more experienced.
